Welcome to the Clot Trot Blog!

Welcome!

Hello and welcome to the official blog of the Clot Trot, where you can find information, pictures and fun facts about the Clot Trot!

History of the Clot Trot:

The Clot Trot is a 5k Run/ 1 mile Walk. It is a project to spread awareness of a bleeding disorder called Hemophilia. This service project originated as a Boy Scout Eage Project of Aaron Smith (who is a severe Hemophiliac). The Clot Trot is a great fitness activity for families, and there is free food, prizes and t-shirts for everyone who participates. The Smith family runs the Clot Trot every year, and as we now approach our seventh year, we've had fantastic success thanks to the support of family, friends, and the community.

A Brief Explanation of Hemophilia:

Hemophilia (heem-o-fill-ee-ah) is a rare genetic bleeding disorder in which the blood does not clot normally.

Hemophilia usually is inherited. "Inherited” means that the disorder is passed from parents to children through genes.People born with hemophilia have little or no clotting factor. Clotting factor is a protein needed for normal blood clotting. There are several types of clotting factors. These proteins work with platelets (PLATE-lets) to help the blood clot.Hemophilia can be mild, moderate, or severe, depending on how much clotting factor is in your blood. About 7 out of 10 people who have hemophilia A have the severe form of the disorder.
